When you receive your Desk 5000, in order to connect it in semi-integrated mode with Alice, you will need to follow the steps below.
Pre-configuration Required in Alice
Before connecting your terminal to your network, make sure you configure your payment methods in Alice.
Payment Methods
You must define the reference in Alice’s configuration so that the transaction is sent to the terminal for processing. You must assign a reference to each of the following payment methods if you accept them:
-
Interac (Debit)
-
Visa
-
Mastercard
-
American Express (AMEX)
-
Discover
-
Gift Cards (Datacandy)
These options can be found in the configuration menu (Billing Tab > Page 5 Tab > Payment Methods Button).
You only need to make this change on one workstation, and it will be applied to the other workstations in the store the next time Alice is launched.
These modifications tell Alice that it must send the transaction to the terminal. The reference is also used when saving the transaction details.
How to Connect the Terminal to Your Network
Your installation kit includes:
-
A power cable and adapter
-
Your Desk 5000, and its connection box for ports
-
A thermal printer roll for the terminal’s printer, and an Ethernet cable
Steps:
-
Connect the Ethernet cable to the ETH port on the multi-port box
-
Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to an Ethernet port on your Internet modem
-
Connect the power cable to its adapter, then plug the adapter into the port on the Desk 5000 multi-port box marked with a lightning bolt symbol
-
Plug the power cable into a power outlet
-
To install the paper roll: open the terminal cover, insert the roll with the paper feeding from the bottom, pull out a bit of paper, then close the cover
Once Connected to the Network
You must ensure that the terminal is in semi-integrated mode and obtain the IP address of your terminal.
Steps:
-
If your screen shows "Semi-Integrated" at the top, the terminal is ready to connect with Alice
-
If your screen shows icons for Sale, Refund, Cancellation, Settlement, you must switch it to Semi-Integrated mode
To change the mode:
-
Select the top-right icon
-
Enter your Manager ID and password
-
Verify that your screen matches step 1.a.
(Note: the same icon lets you disable semi-integrated mode as well)
To obtain the terminal IP address:
-
On the screen, go to Management (bottom left)
-
Use the stylus to select Option 8 – Miscellaneous Options
-
Enter your Manager ID and password
-
In Miscellaneous Options, select Semi-Integrated

-
Ensure option 3 (Ethernet) is selected, then press Enter
-
The screen will display the IP address and Port number of the terminal
Write these down — they are required for Alice configuration.
